Carl Jung

Once upon a time I would have forcefully said “absolutely not” to this quote, as possibly many who read this will do.

After years of taking things personally and blaming others and often being grumpy because of it, I experienced the truth of Carl Jung’s statement. It was quite a wake up call…I have learnt to look at my life and my world differently by relentlessly questioning myself, and found that by not blaming others, I have grown, I have more fun, life is easier and much more exciting. It has not always been an easy journey; it has been and continues to be very rewarding.

I was working with a client the other day, who kept blaming his parents for the way he feels they are “taunting” him and putting him down. By exploring the WHY of his feeling and by digging deep, he discovered the root cause of his feeling/perception and that it actually had nothing to do with his parents…what a sublime moment! He ended the session feeling very free and upbeat, so much lighter!

It was wonderful for both of us. For him to have such profound insights and to be able to make conscious decisions what to do about the situation; and for me to see how he was able to “go there” and shift. This is one of the major reasons I am a coach and Essential Archetype Mentor®: the joy of observing people’s shifts and progress and how they access joy and lightheartedness…how life becomes so much more simple.

So now when I read this quote, my understanding has completely changed. Things will always come up and irritate us. It’s a fact of life. It’s how we deal with it that matters. I now acknowledge that it starts with me and so I look at what button in me has been pushed, and then I can do something about it…I fully understand and agree with Carl Jung’s quote! What do YOU think?

Have a joy-filled week. Would you like to explore how you are put together?
